About "Bag of Life" Painting

Life is not always as complicated as we make it.  In fact, we often mistake the simple things of life such as bags and boxes as mundane.  But it is by taking a closer look at these basic items such as shipping bags, decorated boxes, and packages, that we find things are not as simple as we think.  Each package has texture, line, form and sometimes amazing color.  Each item has a story to tell.  And it is in the anticipation of revealing the what's inside the package that adds the most to our excitement.  It is in that revealing moment that evokes our most intense emotions.  So this simplicity is like life  Life can be simple, but when delving deeper, it is a journey which unfolds and becomes complex and amazing.

Kimberly starts these paintings by creating a unique still-life display from which she creates her initial sketches on the canvas in charcoal.   Acrylic paints are then added to create the forms followed by textural and decorative elements such as paper and fabric which are adhered by a gel medium.  Once these additional elements are added, paint is then blended into the textural elements which unifies the painting.  The colors, designs, angles, and textures take a simple item and transform it into an exquisite and charming composition.  Let this, "Bag of Life" painting add color and decor to your home, office, restaurant or studio!

Artist's Statement

The mundane is not necessarily what we assume.  It is only by looking carefully at the simple, the still, and the uneventful that we find complex form, exquisite angles, sumptuous subtlety, and intricate design that we might have otherwise overlooked.  These still-lifes from bags and boxes are an excellent example that debunks our frivolous assumption.  By careful examination, we find that these simple forms are extraordinary.  And then there is the element of surprise and anticipation that add the thrill of these charming paintings.

Artist's Biography

Kimberly Tracy (Franklin) was always mesmerized by color and creativity since her early childhood, and she was always creating something whether it be costumes to handmade books and drawings, as expression was her first language.

During college in New Mexico, Kimberly's studies of Biology and Chemistry fascinated her as she became particularly enamored with the intricate, pattern-filled cellular structures under a microscope, all throughout nature, and forms within the human body.  The lovely surroundings of the dry yet colorful deserts of the area also captivated her, as did the work of artists from the region like Georgia O' Keeffe.  She feel in love with Georgia's folded flowers, sumptuous undulating landscapes, bending hills, and splendid color and light.  After taking several art courses, Kimberly's love of art inspirations and the patterns and forms from Biology began to be articulated in her artwork.

Flowing, colorful, decorative and ethereal, Kim Franklin's work conveys a sensation of life.  The ebb and flow of life from landscape to ocean has shaped her artistic language and vision.  In her own worlds, "these rich experiences and relics have found their way into my dreams and onto my canvases."

"May these paintings transform you as much as they have transformed me."
