Artist Inspiration

Little Flecks of marvelous color co-mingle and collide in this expressive interpretation of a waterfall.  Like water, life's journey flows, "splashes", and changes with many experiences.  Often the path is unclear and winding, turbulent, and bumpy.  But if we endure and press-on, it can become a beautiful, rich and exciting experience full of light.  The colors in this painting are playful yet tranquil.  They evoke happy thoughts, yet require introspection.  It would make a remarkable piece in any room in your home, office or store.  Read more for Artist Statement and Artist Biography.

Media

This piece is made with encaustic which comes from the Greed word " enkaustikos" which means "to burn".  With encaustic technique, hot wax is melted and painted on then "burned it" to make it permanent.  Many layers are added with each layer being burnt in to adhere to the previous layers.  As layers accumulate, they can then be built up, sculpted, carved, polished and more.  Because of its versatility, encaustic has some of the most unique styles and features which are often embraced by artists.  Because of the addition of layers, encaustic paintings often have a tremendous depth, and when polished can almost look like glass.
