Painting Inspiration

These whimsical, colorful paintings are a playful journey for the eyes & soul, invoking pleasant thoughts and images, often of childhood. 

When we understand that vessels are essential, Kimberly Franklin's work becomes a metaphor for life.  In life, vessels are a simple symbol of the human experience.  "Peas" are a symbol of so many things, as they are in a pod, a vessel.  Our bodies are vessels which inhabit our souls, and our journey to the Summit occurs within a vessel.  Peas are fun and the happy colors evoke images of joy, while the symbolism represents much more.  Read Kimberly's inspiring Artist Statement and Artist Biography.for more information on her process and vessels in her work.

Media  

These paintings are painted with a mixed-media approach using three kinds of media.  First Kimberly uses encaustic wax to create textures and shape which will resist water based media.  Then, alcohol inks are added which are mixable with the wax to some degree.  And finally, watercolor is then used on the painting which is resisted by the wax.  The effect is extraordinary with depth and texture.
