RUBY

As a prominent member of the “corundum” family of gemstones and the Birthstone of July, Rubies are typically pink to deep red sanguine color.  As a “corundum” mineral, Rubies get their rich color mainly from the element chromium. which is present during its formation.  Corundum minerals comprise Diamonds, Emeralds, and Sapphires, and make up the four “precious stones.”  Although rubies are usually more pinkish than Garnets, the “Rhodolite” Garnets also have the pink tones of the ruby.   

Rubies are usually desired for their red color, and stronger, deeper tones often bring a more expensive price.  In fact, Rubies are typically categorized in with the same four “C’s” of a diamond: color, clarity, cut, and carat.
