HISTORY OF TURQUOISE

Turquoise jewelry has been found in ancient Iraq, and the Egyptians were mining the stones over 5000 years ago.   Artifacts of “King Tut” aka Tutankhamun were studded with Turquoise.  The Aztecs used Turquoise in shields, masks and power statues of Moctezuma, the infamous Aztec king.  Native Americans have sought and were adorned in Turquoise and they also embraced it in worship and death rituals.  To the prehistoric Indian, Turquoise was an emblem often utilized in ceremonies symbolizing acknowledgment of the sky god.  Turquoise has a unique ability to change colors, so it was also used in for prophetic uses.
